General Volunteer Information

Ports of Prince William is 100% volunteer run!

We need two types of volunteers for a successful camp - Adults and Program Aides!

Training meetings are scheduled to help registered Adult Staff volunteers (see Dates & Deadlines).  This year's primary Staff Meeting will be held on TBD.  At the meeting, we will have a short presentation on Ports of Prince William Day Camp and answer any questions you might have about the position for which you have volunteered.  Attending a training meeting is mandatory to better understand the day-to-day activities and responsibilities at Ports of Prince William Day Camp.  The meeting focuses on full-time staff positions, but Program Aides should attend, too.

Adult Staff are full-time volunteers who work on site directly with girls and are expected to be available every day (8:45am to 3:45pm) for the camp session(s) they have chosen.  Two adults are assigned to each Unit or Center.  The children of adult staff receive priority placement in camp and half off regular camp fee for their child/children (including boys and preschoolers).  Staff members sign a Volunteer Appointment Form outlining their duties and responsibilities.  If at any time a staff member withdraws or fails to comply with the agreement, their children must pay the additional half of the regular camp fee.  Adult staff are expected to attend the Ports of Prince William training session.  They are also expected to read their Ports of Prince William Handbook and meet or talk with their Unit Co-leaders and Program Aides as often as needed to ensure a smoothly functioning unit.

Program Aides are rising 8th to 12th graders and are expected to be available all day (8:45am to 3:45pm) for the camp session(s) they have chosen and been accepted for.  Two to three Program Aides are assigned to each unit and center.  Program Aides earn leadership or service hours, which can be applied to various Teen Girl Scout Awards.  Program Aides pay a $20.00 fee to cover their camp t-shirt, camp patch and activities.  Program Aides are expected to attend one to two training meetings, the pre-camp Unit Meeting, and meet or talk with their adult staff as needed to ensure a smoothly functioning Unit.

The Staff Resources area contains the Unit Leader Handbook plus other information.

Application dates and training dates can be found in our Dates & Deadlines section.
